Return to your Practice. How Rituals and Practises can bring Joy

Return to your Practice. How Rituals and Practises can bring Joy

I don’t know about you but I have been finding it really hard not to get so caught up in the fear and anxiety of what is happening in the world and in our own communities at the moment. As devastating and heart breaking as it is, we who are fortunate enough not to be in that situation and are able to help will be more useful if we are grounded and centred in our truth.

For me being centred in my truth means:

👉Acknowledging when I may be wrong and out of alignment with my higher or best self.

👉Knowing my worth and knowing what my core beliefs are and standing up for those beliefs.

👉Having faith and trusting that it will all work out in the end.

👉Choosing to live from the Heart and to always try and come from a place of love, compassion and understanding.

Well let me tell you, with everything that is happening right now, the NSW & QLD Floods, Russia invading Ukraine, the tragic death of a local lady and the ridiculous heat we are having here in FNQ I have not been coming from a place of love and understanding. Compassion yes, Love? not so much.

I’ve been so caught up in the whirlwind of it all I haven’t allowed any time for my sacred daily practises like journaling, yoga & meditation, mindful walking and exercise which has caused me to feel ungrounded and off kilter. I’ve learned over time by listening to my body that when I feel like this I’m not able to genuinely assist others and how can you give to other’s if you haven’t first given to yourself? I’ve learned that you just can’t give from an empty cup.

So this morning on my day off I rolled out my mat and started to breathe.
Just so you know, I’m not a great meditator because I’m not consistent and I have a very active mind so I find it difficult to clear my head if I’m out of practise but the instant benefits I feel when I do meditate are astounding and for me is like medicine.

I always love how calm and peaceful I feel afterwards. My body and mind are relaxed, my thoughts are clearer and I’m able to breathe deeply and naturally. I feel a sense of joy, I have more enthusiasm for life and feel I can handle whatever the day brings. I also love spending time on my mat because there’s always a feline or two who comes to join me and their presence and relaxed state of being certainly brings me joy.

It was then that I realised I hadn’t been living in the moment nor could I even remember the last time I had stopped to be present in the HERE & NOW

As someone who has recently studied meditation, this realisation brought feelings   of shame and guilt but thankfully that didn’t last long. I’ve fallen off the horse many times before so I know now that all I can do is get back up. After a few more deep breaths I acknowledged where I was on my spiritual journey and in life in general,       I said thank you and I made the intention to practise  again tomorrow.

If you’re short on time the Calm app is great for a quick 10 minute meditation first thing in the morning before work. If you’ve got the luxury of more time get out your pen and notepad to do some journaling. This allows you to get what’s in your head out on to paper and when you see it written down you’re able to communicate with other’s more clearly. It’s also great to keep track of thoughts and emotions for when you’re doing inner work or when you think of something funny or inspirational.

Something else I do and find meaningful is Rituals and Ceremonies. One of my favourite rituals is to set up an altar or shrine of devotion. I have a few spaces in my home where I set up altars or crystal grids. One is in my Healing room and the other is in our hallway. Last night my Fiancé arrived home with a beautiful bunch of Roses from Yungaburra Rose farm and so I made a shrine to the Divine Feminine and Rose Priestesses which also coincided with International woman’s day.

Seeing the shrine and smelling the scent of roses seemed like such a simple joy and it really did help lift my mood but more importantly it helped me to centre myself in my Heart space.

Creating this space in my home and within myself allowed me to feel kindness and compassion which then gave me the idea to take a Rose and place it with all the other flowers that marked where a local girl tragically lost her life last week. Not someone I knew well but something the whole community has been affected by and one of the things weighing on my mind lately.

So as we move forward on this earth and in this timeline or reality we become more fluid and connected thus we’re more able to feel what others are feeling.
If you’re a sensitive or a light worker then you’ll be feeling it even more so now which is why It’s important to return to your practices or if you don’t have a practice, to start one whatever that may be so we are grounded and steady and so we can be the helping hands. To be a beacon of light and change. We as light workers must be the pillar of light for others to see and we must hold the light for humanity.

What rituals and practises do you do to help align you with your truth and bring joy?
